Do you access this through Properties from the printer dialog? I tried the HP 4000 printer and had the same problem BUT I also had that problem in Microsoft Word as well so I'm assuming it may be a problem in the printer driver. If so, try downloading the latest drivers from the HP Website.

With the HP 4000 drivers it says Page Order and the dropdown is disabled in all programs.

On the 4050, the collate option appears on the main print screen before accessing the properties. It is grayed out there. On the 4100, the properties are displayed on additional tabs with the main print screen (no properties button), but the collate option is on the main tab, and is grayed out. It is not grayed out in Word for these printers.

I'm trying to download the driver from the HP website but their servers are busy. You would think a 2 billion dollar company would not have this problem. Anyways, there is a flag that I may need to set but I want to test it directly with the 4050/4100 drivers. I'll keep you posted.

Hello Heather,

I downloaded the a 4050 pcl 5e driver and the collate seems to work just fine and is enabled when there is more than one page in the form letter. Do you know which driver you are using (ie: 5e, pcl 6, etc)? Have you downloaded the latest drivers from the HP website at:

Then at Start, Settings, Printers click Add Printer and click Have Disk.

We've got the current drivers as well, and I tried both the PCL 6 and PCL 5e drivers. However, the collate option is still grayed out (I made sure the documents had more than 1 page) in A1Law only - not in Word or Word Perfect. Our users are on WinXP and Win2000.

Will it allow you to select a page range to print (ie: print from pages 4-7)? I know the older version did not allow that and one would have to click the printer several times before it would print. I'm just trying to be absolutely sure you have the latest version on there machines.

I assure you we do have the most current drivers.

Yes, it does allow us to choose the range of pages to print.

Please note that the same printer on a Win98 system allows the collate function. It is on the WinXP & Win2000 systems that the collate function is grayed out in A1Law only.
