Dear Michael and fellow A1 firms,
I need your assistance on another issue. Our firm is trying to decide whether to use Case Activity or Extended Notes for note information. What are your thoughts? Pros/Cons of using either method? Also, if you do use Case Activity for Note Information, do you have any suggestions on how to setup the various categories? Our firm practices WC, SS, PI and some Discrimination law.
Thanks again!
Sincerely,
Michael Lerner

Notes - Case Activity Vs. Extended Notes

Re: Notes - Case Activity Vs. Extended Notes
Case Activity all the way......
Sometimes people might use extended notes for the initial interview with the client.
One example of case activity categories might be as follows:
Main Case Activity
Rehab Log
Rehab Notes
Medicals/Liens
Subpoenaed Records
Other Exhibits
Documents Reviewed
Notes
You may decide to group a few categories. For example, in the above, you can see that Medicals/Liens have been grouped. Another example, might be as follows:
Main Case Activity
Rehab
File & Serve / Meds
132A / S & W
Benefits
Penalties
Another example:
Main Activity
Rehab
Medicals / Liens
Correspondence
Pleadings
Court Forms
Many offices add a category or two later as they use the system more. Keep in mind that the more categories you have, the more you may have to look at each one to find that category you are looking for. But, the more categories you have, the easier it is to discuss a specific area (like medicals) without everything being all jumbled together.
Here's an example of how you might set up your form letter categories:
GENERAL, 1,99
INTAKE, 100,150
REHAB, 151, 175
ADA, 176, 199
HEARINGS AND DEPOS, 200, 250
MEDICAL AND OFFICE APPOINTMENTS, 400, 450
C&R, 451, 499
FORM PLEADINGS, 500, 550
DEPOSITION PETITIONS-RIOT ACT LETTER, 551, 570
MISCELLANEOUS, 700,799
HOME CARE, 800, 850
ADMINISTRATIVE, 8999,10000
Med/Legal Copy Forms,10005,10019
WC General Forms,10020,10099
WC Discovery,10100,10149
WC Rehab Forms,10150,10199
WC Physician's Forms,10200,10299
PI Civil Forms,10300,10399
