First off, thank you for the information on reading integer strings for the dateopen command.
Is there another way to create labels other than using by creating tables? If not, is there a way to define 1) the row height, and 2) the column width more precisely than dragging the margin?

Your welcome anytime.

I'm a little confused here. I'm not sure if you many labels for one client or one label for a lot of parties in the system. You may easily print labels from either the rolodex or a list of found cases, etc.
Let's take a really simple example. Suppose you want to print 30 labels for SCIF or any other party in the rolodex. Go into the rolodex, search for the party (ie: the applicant, employer, carrier, attorney, doctor, etc). Click the printer icon on the toolbar. Type in 30 for Copies. Click the Current checkbox so that it only prints the current name you are at in the rolodex (and not everyone). Double click on Labels (3 Column / 30 page).
Hope that helps otherwise please reply back to this post and let us know what you are trying to do.

We create lables which we affix to rolodex cards and to the case folder which include case information on them. The labels are generally created on Avery 5366 & 5197. While the ability to print directly from the rolodex will be a great asset, I need to create merge documents printed to labels for the majority of our label needs. However, unless I can define row height, my labels line up only for on some rows.

1. However, unless I can define row height, my labels line up only for on some rows.
You may define RowHeight. Highlight the entire table (or the part of the table or document) that you want to define the rowheight for. Next, click the P button to pull up the Paragraph Dialog box in the lower right corner. Next, in the Line Spacing section click the In Inches checkbox, click Exact. Next, where it says Free, type in 0.200 or 0.250 or 0.140 or whatever you desire for your rowheight for the blocked text.
Finally, you should also know that the very latest version now integrates much easier for Word and Word Perfect so it may be even faster to create specific labels rather than trying to adjust a table in A1-Law. This should provide you with two ways of accomplishing what you are trying to do.
Regarding a Top Sheet, I hope you have tried printing one from A1-Law. From the Client Card, click the printer icon, click the Top Sheet tab and click Print.
Let us know if that helps you,
Mike

I tried the paragraph formatting option as per your instructions. However, perhaps I am missing another step because when I set the line spacing, it uses that spacing between each line on each row. Thus I can only have one line to a row. I am unable to merely divide the line spacing by the number of lines per each row because these sometimes vary according to the length of a certain field's data and whether or not that length requires 2 lines instead of 1. Is there something more I can do to implement this?

I guess I'm still not quite seeing what you are trying to do. Are you trying to put different names in a table and have them line up with the proper number of line feeds so that they print on a sheet of labels (and not in between two labels)? If so, can you tell me what parties you are trying to print on the label (ie: the attorney, carrier, etc) and what commands you are using.
This can be done but I may provide you with a different method of getting the information into the table in the A1-Law letter.

When we receive a new file, the receptionist inputs the file's information into the database. That information is then merged into 5 documents which initiate each new file in our office. 2 of those documents are merged onto labels.
Label identifying case folder:
> vs. >
> >
Label affixed to rolodex card:
> vs. >
File #: > Date Rec'd: >
WCAB #: > SSN: >
Applicant Attorney: >App Atty Phone: >
Client: > Adjuster: >
CLSD_______ Box #________Reopened:______
This information is individual to each case and needs to be merged as the other forms are. However, the receptionist will not always be printing from the first label on a pack (I know HP would shudder and vehemently object). Therefore, I need to lock row height in a table so that the receptionist can cut and paste the merged data from cell 1 to whichever cell coincides with her current label. As it is, if I set the line spacing to determine row height, it allows for only one line to be input to match the correct size. If I don't set the row height at all, then all the empty cells are incorrectly sized to push the cell to the correct location on the page to match the current label.
I realize that A1Law has been upgraded to allow more integration with WP and Word. However, one of our goals with switching to this software is to leave behind the other word processors entirely to reduce licensing costs and support time on problematic programs.
Will you be considering a way to define and lock row height and column width for future upgrades to enable documents to merge to labels?

Hello - I am going to try and clarify your comments so that I'm sure that I understand (sorry, but I'm still confused, so I'm just trying to clarify what I can)
1. When we receive a new file, the receptionist inputs the file's information into the database.
I believe you are referring to the Client Card in A1-Law.
2. That information is then merged into 5 documents which initiate each new file in our office. 2 of those documents are merged onto labels.
I assume you are referring to form letters in A1-Law and it's the 2 documents/form letters that you are having trouble with.
3. This information is individual to each case and needs to be merged as the other forms are. However, the receptionist will not always be printing from the first label on a pack
I assume you mean a HP printer. That should not make a difference as far as A1-Law is concerned (yes, HP may shudder).
Okay, I think I understand what you are saying. I'll need to research this further and reply back in the next day or two. I realize you are going out on maternity but I will post back here and let you know what I find.
5. I realize that A1Law has been upgraded to allow more integration with WP and Word. However, one of our goals with switching to this software is to leave behind the other word processors entirely to reduce licensing costs and support time on problematic programs.
I understand that. I try to allow for as much flexibility as possible. It's interesting how in some offices they want everything in A1-Law. Other offices use both (where Word or Word Perfect is licensed only on the machines where a few staff members need special features) and others only want to use Word or Word Perfect.
6. Will you be considering a way to define and lock row height and column width for future upgrades to enable documents to merge to labels?
Now that I fully understand what you want, I'm going to research it and see what is involved and get back with you.

Thanks for looking into this.
In the meantime, I have been working on a version of these forms which integrates with Corel WordPerfect 6.1.
I upgraded to A1Law 4.1.0 and created the following document as a label in WP:
>> v. >>
File #: >> Date Rec'd: >>
WCAB#: >> SS#: >>
Claim #: >>
AA: >> Ph: >>
Client: >> ADJ: >>
CLSD _________ Box# _________ Reopened ________
And the coinciding document in A1Law, saving it as a type Word Perfect document:
DebugOn
WordPerfectStyle = 2
Path = E:\A1Law\WP
FileName = rolodex.wpd
{FieldName = Applicant
>>}
{FieldName = Defendant
>>}
{FieldName = FileNo
>}
{FieldName = Date
>}
{FieldName = WCAB
>}
{FieldName = SSN
>>}
{FieldName = Claims
>}
{FieldName = AppAtty
>>}
{FieldName = AA_Ph
>>}
{FieldName = Client
>>}
{FieldName = Adjuster
>>}
I get the following errors when I try to open/print the form:
Error: 1733; Message: Class definition WORDPERFECT.PERFECTSCRIPT is not found; Program: FRMEDITA1LAWDOC.EDITWP2A; Line: 41

Hello,
couple of things. First, try printing the A1-Law form letter and set the Type to A1-Law (rather than Word Perfect) just to make sure that all of the codes are set up properly. This probably won't solve the problem you are having but at least you will know that the codes are merging properly.
Next, change the Type back to Word Perfect. It appears from your error code, that Word Perfect 6.1 may be too old and not compatible. I know for a fact it works with Corel Word Perfect 8.0. The question is whether Corel integrated the "Perfect Script" in 6.1. I have a strong feeling based on your errors that it was not integrated as of yet. I also know that A1-Law integrates just fine with Word 97 and Word 2000.
I will keep you posted on the status of the labels.
Mike
