INTEGRATION WITH LEGAL SOLUTIONS

#1

Hi Mike,
Our paralegal finds it much easier to create some forms in Legal Solutions. There's 2 problems I see with that.
1) The form is not attatched to the case in A1Law
2) He may forget to put an entry into the case activity.

I came up with a good solution for the ones he creates in WordPerfect. I created a form called WordPerfect documents & set it up to prompt an entry to post into case activity. For TYPE I selected WordPerfect.

I'd like to do the same type of form using Legal Solutions as the TYPE however, as you know, it's not an option. There is an option called OTHER, how can I modify the program to bring up Legal Solutions when I chose the OTHER option?

1. Our paralegal finds it much easier to create some forms in Legal Solutions.

What do you mean create forms? The forms in A1-Law are far far superior to Legal Solutions. Legal Solutions is a serious "downgrade." I need to know exactly what the paralegal is referring to.

I understand.

Before I incorporate an option to allow you to "downgrade" to a module that is not geared for volume and is not nearly as flexible - I need to know your reasons.

As you enter more and more cases it will take longer and longer to load Legal Solutions. I have an office that is in the process dumping their case management system in favor of A1-Law for several reasons. One in particular is that it takes several minutes every time they want to do a court form and it crashes all the time (but they have several users on their network). Perhaps there is something your paralegal is not aware of.

There has to be something your paralegal is unaware of with the forms because everyone is happy with them and I have had no complaints. They are highly customizable so please let me know what they are referring to.

Our paralegal tells me that he uses Legal Solutions to obtain court forms that aren't in A1-Law

Are you talking about workers' comp forms or other forms? As you know, A1-Law has over 90% of the comp forms. In any event, what you and your paralegal may not be aware of is that it is possible to design your OWN court forms in A1-Law just like the A1-Law forms (ie: the DOR, the C & R, etc). Yes, it's possible to do that but it may take you anywhere from 4-8 hours to completely design a 1 page court form depending on the complexity of the form.

You may design any forms you like (social security, family law, etc etc) and they will look and feel exactly like the forms in A1-Law.

As stated before - the problem with legal solutions is (I'm referring to when it's integrated with another package and this information comes from other offices who have used it with other case management programs):

1. it does not integrate well with other applications - not all the information transfers and there's a "double entry" procedure required.

2. it takes way too long to load up as you get more and more clients in a system. It's like a situation that just continues to worsen with time. I know of a firm where it can take well over a minute every time they want to do one court form.

3. It crashes often when there are a lot of users in the system then everyone has to exit out.

4. You can't work on several forms at the same time while pulling up several different client cards - you have to finish what you are doing.

All of these drawbacks are more than enough for users to prefer the forms in A1-Law. If it's simply a situation where you need more forms - you may design your own or mail them to me so that I can incorporate them into the system. Some offices do not like to wait and prefer to just make their own.

Most offices do not have the time so they just fax me the form or forms they would like to see in the next revision. If you are very interested in designing your own forms, you will need to buy an external application which is about $150 (it's kind of like me saying if you want to utilize Word or Word Perfect, you have to buy an external package). However, the external packae is only so that you may design forms - the forms you design will be available for the entire staff to use directly in A1-Law with or without the external package.

If you are interested in designing your own court forms or learning more about this, please send me an Email and I'll provide you with the details.
