Hi Mike,

In Word Perfect 5.1 dos version, if your system locked up or there was a power failure, one could assign a directory that would back up the document you were working on when the lock up or power failure occured.

Today two paralegals were working on letters, (at separate times) and they got an error message. It wasn't the pink box error message. It was a Fox Pro error message with many lines of codes in the box. They were not working on court forms but a letter to the client that I created that was really basic. The only thing you could do was hit OK and when doing so, the document was lost and A1 closed. Is there a directory on the C or network drive where that lost document is saved or is there a way I can configure a directory for back up when this type of stuff happens?

Thanks

Cassy

Hi Cassy,

usually staff can process letters very quick since there are so many that are standardized. However, if it's dictation, that may not be the case. I am looking at implementing an AutoSave feature in the event of power failures. At the present time, the only other solution would be to integrate dictation letters with either Word or Word Perfect since they have those features built in. I'm assuming it's mainly a problem with dictation letters since in the event of a power failure it would not be a problem to redo a standardized letter.

The only other option I can see is to "save as you go" if you know it will be a long letter.

By the way,

I should mention that errors like this should be extremely rare. Therefore, if random errors like this happen often, please post back so that we may isolate the problem.

In general, windows (depending on the version) may crash as often as once a week. But, if you find that it's limited to one machine and it's happening several times a day, then you have to start looking at what might be causing the errors (ie: bad cable connections, hardware problems, software glitch, etc).
