Global Reassign - Exchanging Two Secretaries

Dear Michael,

Hope your New Years was terrific!

I am trying to puzzle out a situation and need your help.

I know I can use Global Reassign to quickly change an attorney's cases listed Secretary... for example:

I can easily Change Attorney AAA's Secretary from XXX to YYY.

However, I have a situation where Attorney AAA & Attorney BBB are exchanging Secretaries.

So Before:

Attorney AAA with Secretary XXX
Attorney BBB with Secretary YYY

After Change:

Attorney AAA with Secretary YYY
Attorney BBB with Secretary XXX

-How would I do this? Could I use Global Reassign? Different Program/Code? Would I need to just change One Secretary over using Global Reassign and then do the rest manually?

In sorting algorithms we call that a "swap." So, to swap A and B we first copy A into C then copy B to A then copy C to B. So, here's a simple way you can do that with Global Reassign.

First, click Tools, System, Configure System Defaults, Security, Backup Now.

Next, here's what you do:

Change Attorney AAA with Secretary XXX to Secretary ZZZ where there is no ZZZ secretary in your office
Next, change Attorney BBB with Secretary YYY to Secretary XXX
Next, change Attorney AAA with Secretary ZZZ to Secretary YYY

You can evaluate whether you want to do this globally for those two attorneys or whether you need it just for their O for OPEN cases.

Now you are done - so you are actually performing THREE global reassigns to accomplish your goal (:P)

Dear Michael,

I think I may be making this process more complicated than it needs to be.

Please let me know if this is correct:

If I just wanted attorney AAA to have secretary YYY in the system:

Parameters:

Atty Resp: AAA
Atty Hand: AAA

(Rest Blank)

Changes to be Made:

Sec Hand: YYY

-->Proceed

Regardless of who is currently listed as the Secretary for that attorney it would now change them all to YYY

And then I could do the same with attorney BBB with Secretary XXX

Correct - that sounds perfect. Don't forget the Quick Backup as a precaution.

Is Quick Backup the same as Tools - System - Configure System Defaults - Security - Backup Now?
