We had another client with this problem and have since resolved the issue. Some Windows 2000 systems did not have some necessary files for the controls to register. The next release will resolve all these issues and you only need to re-register controls on those Win 2000 machines with the problems.

Dear Michael,

Great to hear. For the meantime then should I just continue to use the law.exe workaround?

Thanks!

That's fine - this weekend's release will resolve the problem. Once you install it just re-register the controls.

Dear Michael,

Was doing updates over this week and confirmed that the issue is still with the older 3.0 workstation install files which creates the A1-Law shortcut as C:\LAWLOCAL\LA1Law.exe A1Law.

Re-indexing on a system with 3.0 installed - "Cannot locate the Microsoft visual Foxpro Library"

The Fix:

1. Uninstall 3.0 (A1-Law Workstation 3.00 or 3.00e_Install Local Files)
2. Delete the A1 shortcuts
3. Change the LAWLOCAL folder to another name (like LAWLOCALOLD)
4. Install 6.0 (A1-Law Workstation 6.0 Install Local Files)

The new shortcut is now C:\:awLocal\A1Menu.EXE A1Login.exe

5. Re-add any needed shortcuts (I like one in the Startup for All Users so it automatically appears at logon)

-Once again the issue Only appears when you do a Re-registration with the older workstation files installed.

The best solution is to simply run the newer A1Setup.exe instead of setupwrk.exe and this can be run anytime without having to uninstall or reinstall anything. It should create an icon on the desktop but to reregister controls one will need access rights and/or to (termporarily) disable to UAC. Thanks for the feedback.

Dear Michael,

To confirm: You can install the Workstation program 6.0 (A1Setup.exe) over older version like 3.0/3.0e (setupwrk.exe) without any problems developing?

Thanks!

You will have more problems (if any) with setupwrk. Also, A1Setup creates the more revised shortcut targets using A1Menu rather than LA1Law. You should only use A1Setup and remove and never use setupwrk. Also, please make sure you have the A1Setup dated 1/15/2008. You may always download it here: http://www.appellsoftware.com/A1Setup.zip
