Windows 7 64-bit version compatible?

#1

Post by LMSSC » Thu Jan 27, 2011 5:00 pm

Dear Michael,

The Introduction lists A1 Law as:
"PC Compatible. Supports Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7 or a combination."

In regards to Windows 7, does it support both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions?

We are looking to make some Operating System Upgrades and wanted to be sure.

Thanks!

Yes - A1-Law is fully compatible with 64 bit but you may encounter problems with other programs so be careful.

Great to hear!

You may want to add that piece of info to the Information page since most new systems you get are going the 64-bit route nowadays.

Any other programs I should watch out for?

Thanks again!

Most DOS programs will not work with 64 OS systems unless you run them with an emulator but otherwise I don't know of any in particular. I just know that some programs do have problems.

Dear Michael,

I please need your help with an A1 Windows 7 64-bit installation. It is not working properly.

I used the A1Setup.exe (6.0) program (Latest one we have from 2008 - Is there a more current version?)

Here's what happened:

1. Installed program
2. Setup - To our network location
3. Login
4. Required Register A1 Law Controls - OK

-During this process... Error Code:
"Error: Access is Denied." (Note: It was not specific about WHAT file had an error)

5. Logged into A1

2x OLE error code 0x80040154: Class not registered. OLE object is being ignored.
Record number 45.

6. Quit A1
7. Tried to Re-open A1:
Microsoft Visual FoxPro - Cannot locate the Microsoft Visual FoxPro support library.

~What is the next step I should take? Thanks!

Here are the steps:

1. Open My Computer, Local Disk C, RIGHT CLICK ON LAWLOCAL and click Properties, Security and make sure the USERS and other groups have FULL CONTROL.

2. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories and then RIGHT CLICK on command prompt and then Left Click on Run As Administrator.

3. Type CD \LAWLOCAL\CONTROLS and press Enter

4. Type REGALL1 and press Enter and click OK as each control successfully registers.

5. Close the window and test it again.

Dear Michael,

Thanks for this information.

1. I'm guessing that in the future once I install A1-Law I should do step #1 before I login to A1-Law for the 1st time?

2. Following the steps above ran into some errors at Step #4.

Command Prompt message: cd doc PrtP

"The system cannot find the path specified"

Command Prompt message: REGSVR32 docPrintCom.dll

The module "docPrintCom.dll" failed to load.

Windows Error message: Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files.

The specified module could not be found.

--> Afterwards I tried out A1. Login successful. Print successful (Using a 64-bit UFR driver).

-What should I do next?

Thanks again!

Probably at least check it. But in addition to avoid all the other problems and issues you could disable the User Access Control (then if you want re-enable it after running A1-Law and registering controls for the first time).

2. Following the steps above ran into some errors at Step #4.

You don't need to worry about registering that control at this time unless you are going to be using and Efiling with Perfect Filer. If so, then it's best to disable the user access control and then in A1-Law click Tools, Miscellaneous, Register Controls.

Dear Michael,

Thanks for the update.

How would I disable/re-enable the User Access Control?

Start, Control Panel, User Accounts, Change User Access Control Settings. Turn it all the way down on Windows 7 then restart the computer.
