Mr. Appell-

After the last update, one of our workstations has been having a problem printing form letters. When using the ? button to select a form letter to print, she gets the following message before A1Law teminates on her:

File not found: wndtls32.dll

I have checked and this file is indeed located in the correct location, same as every other computer in the office.

Any suggestions?

Where is the drive and path you have wndtls32.dll located? Go to that workstation and try clicking Start, Run and enter:

regsvr32 c:\windows\system\tx4ole.ocx

and click OK. Does it say Succeeded or Failed? What operating system is it running (win 98, 2000, etc)?

Mr. Appell-

We are running Win2000Pro

>>Start, Run and enter:

regsvr32 c:\windows\system\tx4ole.ocx

and click OK. Does it say Succeeded or Failed?

Succeed.

wndtls32.dll is located in the c:\winnt\system32\ folder, just like all other computers.

Try deleting the file c:\lawlocal\stationl.ini Then run A1Law and it will say, New Version Detected. Click Proceed and A1Law will reregister all the files and copy what it needs from the server. Make SURE the user has Standard Rights or the necessary rights so that A1-Law may register the controls. If that does not work try reinstalling the "client" on the workstation as follows:

Simply delete the C:\LawLocal folder (do not delete anything on the server, only the workstation). Next, run the Setupwrk program again (it may be in the A1Law or A1Law\extras folder or on the CD) and then click Start, Programs, A1Law, Link Computer to Network and enter the network driver location as in the example.

Dear fellow A1-Users,

(This message is about Windows 2000 and User rights ONLY)

It seems that when the program needs to register files (upon initial installation or during upates that require re-registration - like the current 4.2.5 update or the next 4.2.6 allowing pdf attachment) - the account you are using has to have that level of privilege in a Windows 2000 network.
We are using a Windows 2000 Network. I have found that the re-registration of files can fail if the current account during re-registration has only User level privileges (which doesn't allow program modifications).
Since having all the workstation user accounts be Administrative is bad security, when I installed the recent update I ended up going to each workstation... logged in with a local Administrative account... opened A1-Law on that computer which downloaded the update to the local machine and re-registered the files.

Anyone with Windows 2000 setup that has found a better way?
Thanks!

Sincerely,
Michael Lerner

You should be able to bump their rights up to Standard (on the workstation only) and then they will be able to register the files. This will also allow them to install local programs on their computer. If you don't want that, then you may set up "policies" in Win 2000 but I'm not very familiar with how all that is done.
