Locking merged parts of form letters

Is there a way to lock a form letter, not just so that the form itself cannot be editted, but so that whatever data is merged from the form set up is locked with only certain defined fields accessible for typing or editting? For example, if I had a form letter which gave me the following:

Ms. Jane Doe
100 Test Dr.
Test City, CA 91403

Mr. Joe Smith
1100 Test DR.
Test City, CA 91403

Dear Mr. Smith:

>

Sincerely,

Jane Doe

In this letter I would want everything locked to avoid accidental (or purposeful) alteration, except where the user would type the body of the letter where it says >. I see you've done this with your court forms. Is there a way for me to do this as well?

Heather,

I believe what you would want (and what you are really asking) is to LOCK the template - so that users cannot modify the template. Otherwise, every time someone prints that letter in the future would have changes that you would not want. However, I would think you would still want users to be able to make changes to a specific letter generated from the template.

In other words, for example, I print form letter number 10 for a specific client. Now, a letter is generated from the template #10 and anything I change in form letter number 10, changes ONLY for that one case and does NOT change the template.

A1-Law allows you to do this by restricting access to the Edit letter tab and users only have access to the Print tab.

This should be acceptable - is this correct?
Mike
