input4 command and other commands

Dear Michael,

I'm trying to figure out how to use the input4 command for the following situation.

Where the person would manually type in:
Medical Group (tab) Date of Service (tab) Lien Amount

as in:
Orange Sun X 6/6/2000 $500.00

However there might be multiple liens that would need to be added:
like:

Orange Sun X 6/6/2000 $500.00
Blue Funk 6/8/2000 $300.00
Orange Sun X 6/12/2000 $400.00

Secondly,

We have a situation where we need to cc: an insurance carrier + (sometimes) the Legal Department at the same location.
As in:

cc: Fred Insurance Fund
P.O. Box 1111
Here, CA 94555

Legal Department
Fred Insurance Fund
P.O. Box 1111
Here, CA 94555

Would you have separate entries for each in the rolodex and then attach them as insurance1 and insurance2 to then be pulled?
How would you cc: to multiple parties without the name of the contact at that organization showing up in each?

Suggestions? Thoughts?

Thanks again!
Sincerely,

Hi Michael:

in response to your questions:

QUESTION 1:

>

ANSWER 1:

The Input4 is a very useful command. However, in this situation, I would not use the Input4 command. I would set up a separate Case Activity Category. For example, you might call it Med/Liens. Create a User Defined Case Activity Category so that you don't have Date, Event, Initials. Rather, you have, Medical Group, Date of Service, Lien Amount, Description, Doctor, etc.

Then merge the information in that case activity category into the letter automatically. You could use the Input4 command but wouldn't it be nicer to be able to always reference the applicant's meds and liens in a case activity category and also be able to just automatically pull them into a form letter?

Question 2:

>

In general, you may specify to include parties either with or without the name when doing a GetParty command. Therefore, if you want both (one with and one without), you are probably using the party (with and without the name) for a different purpose. Therefore, they are really two parties. So, you would enter it once in the rolodex without a name (just the firm or insurance company). Then all other situations with a name would be Attached to that firm (without the name). Then you have both parties at the client card and you may easily select which ones to serve (either the one without a name, with a name, or both).

So, in answer to your question:

>

Yes, you would but the entries with the name would be Attached to the main firm so that if the address changes, it's automatically changed for all the cards that are attached to that address.

Question 3:

>

Use the GetParty,Ask10 to automatically select the 10th style in the dropdown which is to include the firmname without the name.

Dear Michael,
I'm still confused. Under Configure System Defaults, would you go to Case Activity and add a new type OR would you go to User Defined Screens? How would you then pull it into a form letter?
Thanks again!

You would add a Category in Configure System Defaults, Case Activity. You could add a Med/Lien category. Then, take a look at the GetCaseAct command in the help file (there are several examples). It's quite powerful and can get extremely involved. Try this simple command to get you started:
