1. what is the INPUT4 command?

Leslie, the INPUT4 command is one of the most powerful and flexible commands available when designing form letters. You may click the [?] menu and then click the Help button (to take you to the help file). Click Merge Commands, scroll down and click INPUT. You will then see all the variations of the INPUT command explained. A complete example of INPUT4 is given in the help file as follows:

>

You may cut and pasted this example from either the support forum here or the help file right into a form letter to see what it does. You may have up to 10 questions for every INPUT4 command and they are stored in memory variables which may then be placed anywhere in the form letter.

Very often, when users discover this, they revise a lot of their letters to accommodate this command. It makes a lot of sense especially when you have a lot of regular INPUT commands in a letter. Rather than have 5 or 10 INPUT commands, you may have them all in one INPUT4 command.

2. FieldName = FillTextFIRMATTYHAND,>
That should automatically enter the user's name into that field, but it didn't. Help. (I'm still talking about form 10061).

Leslie, you have not properly named the field. If you click on it in the form (since you have COURTFORM,DEBUG1) you will notice it is FIRMATTYHAND and not FillTextFIRMATTYHAND. Therefore, you want to put this in the letter:

FieldName = FIRMATTYHAND,>

It looks like you are starting to really grasp how to customize ALL the fields in all your forms. Do you see how you can easily set up any defaults you like? Once you integrate that with the INPUT4 command you may allow the user to pick commonly used phrases for any field or allow them to type in their own.

Keep at it; you are doing great.

Hi Mike,
I've got it to function properly, however, I tried adding the > command at the bottom of the document & I adjusted the margins & line spacing as you explained in the "Pleading - SS/PI" topic, but I can't get it to print the pleading on the Proof of Service (#10061). If it's possible to print together, I'll need some more tips.

Thanks, Leslie

Form 10061 is a court form and not a form letter. Therefore, the pleadingpaper command will not work. You may use the pleading paper command with form letters if you decide to design your own proof of service as a form letter.
