Help Agenda

I have just upgraded to Win XP Professional, and the search option for Help does not seem to be working. It comes up as a blank box with no option to enter search agenda or any text whatsoever.

Also, is there a way to copy the bookmarks I saved from one system to another?

You probably need to set up your indexes again. I'm not sure if you are referring to the key icon (the middle button) or the binoculars icon (the button on the right).

Copying bookmarks and other things from one system to another are related to your windows help system and not A1-Law. It may be possible but whether they are compatible is another thing. This is all part of the windows style help system and not A1-Law. What you may do is look for any files that start with A1-Law in your A1Law\Help folder as well as the Windows\Help folder. If there are other extensions besides the Adobe pdf, you may want to copy those.

How do I set up my indexes?

I was referring to the binoculars.

There should be something there that allows you to Rebuild the help index file for that.

Can you please clarify?

I don't have problems with my help menu in any other program. I've never had to set up my indexes, so when you say again, it sounds as though this is something I would have already done at some point. Is this a Windows function, or one of the help menu attached to your system, or on of your program? Where should there be something that allows me to Rebuild the help index file?

I'm not sure how you got to the Search option to begin with. Normally, for context sensitive help, you may be anywhere in A1-Law and just press the F1 Key.

You may click the Contents button or Index button to search that way as well. I think the fastest is to just type the F1 key at any window for context sensitive help. But, the Search button allows for an interface with windows to build it's own keys for searching. If you like I can research this more for you, but I don't have the answers right now because it's a windows' issue and not A1-Law.

I find I can't locate the same information without spending a good deal of time perusing the Contents as opposed to being able to utilize the Search option.

I would like your help in finding out why it isn't working with XP (it's any of the XP systems). But the other issues I've forwarded to you are priority needs, so this one can wait until those are resolved.

You should usually be able to type F1 and then go to the VERY next topic either with the right arrow key (in the Help section) or by clicking the next topic (in the left frame under the books). This topic is the:

Client Card - Letters - Merge Commands

From here, I would think it would be relatively simple to click on any command for details and also click the Back button to go back
